Moments after

Councilors , , and are dead. arrives with her soldiers to secure the area and checks in on her daughter. As Jayce examines the scene, he finds severely wounded and collapsed on the floor. Jayce rushes his friend to his lab and frantically looks through Viktor's notes for anything that can save him. He sees Viktor's body reacting to the and brings the device closer to him. The hexcore latches onto Viktor and seems to fuse with him.Later, Councilor Kiramman is laid to rest while hextech. Mel fears that Salo's plan risks unifying Zaun against
Piltover, and suggests pinning the blame solely on Jinx and offering a reward for her capture. Shoola sides with Salo, leaving Mel outnumbered two to one. Reluctantly, Mel agrees to endorse the invasion on the condition that no hextech is used. Shoola sides with Mel, outnumbering Salo two to one.
Back at the Kiramman manor, Caitlyn sifts through the recent mail, including numerous letters of condolence. Her father arrives, appearing utterly miserable. She confides in him that she had a clean shot on Jinx, but didn't take it. Seeing that his daughter is still mourning as well, Tobias presents Caitlyn with an heirloom from her mother: the Kiramman key. Caitlyn doesn't believe she is ready for it, but Tobias reassures her that it is her legacy. watches from the hallway, causing Tobias to question her presence. Vi leaves, but Caitlyn goes after her. She meets Vi in a windowed hall, embracing her in tears. Vi resigns that is gone and tells Caitlyn that if Jayce repairs the , she'll stop Jinx herself. However, Caitlyn rejects the "reckless" plan and informs Vi of the upcoming invasion. She asks Vi to join them, presenting her with an
Enforcers badge. Vi is taken aback and refuses to become an enforcer after having watched them kill her parents.
Later, as Vi wanders Piltover alone, she takes shelter from the rain beneath a bridge. In her anger, she throws a bottle that hits a drunk named
. He takes a seat next to her and offers her a drink.Mel arrives at Jayce's lab to check in on him and Viktor. Viktor is unconscious and appears to be suspended in a tomb of otherworldly magical fluid with only his face visible. Jayce reveals that while Viktor is stable, he doesn't know what the hexcore is doing to him, aside from keeping him alive. He feels guilty for surviving the blast unharmed, while his partner is left in a catatonic state. Mel comforts him. When he asks about the Council meeting, Mel informs him that her mother is already manipulating Salo, however, she refuses to let them corrupt Jayce's hextech dream into more offensive weaponry. She recommends that Jayce pay Caitlyn a visit, as the girl is in terrible pain.
Caitlyn, in an upscale park surrounded by fallen petals, is entranced in a waking daydream/nightmare in which she has Jinx in her rifle sights. She is brought out of her reverie by Jayce, who is worried about whether Viktor will survive. Caitlyn is sad about her mom, homicidally angry at Jinx, and pessimistic about Vi and Vi's desire to go solo with hextech gauntlets instead of joining the Enforcers, feeling that there is more at stake than just survival. She admits that, following her mother's death, she fantasizes about taking her revenge against Jinx and finally understands "how easy it is to hate them."
Vi and Loris drink in the streets until the next morning. They're interrupted by a pair of enforcers, Junior Officer
and . Maddie is starstruck meeting Vi, saying that Vi is "something of a legend amongst the enforcers." Apparently, Caitlyn spread the word of Vi's bravery after she and Jayce attacked facilities against the Council's wishes. Vi is surprised that Caitlyn would still be so supportive of her. Maddie is under the impression that Vi will be joining the enforcers and is thrilled by the idea, especially following betrayal. Vi merely nods and doesn't correct her.Vi attends a memorial for the fallen Councilors Bolbok, Hoskel, and Kiramman. Among the other attendees are Jayce, Caitlyn, and Loris. Maddie and Steb are there as guards. As Mel gives a speech to the crowd, Vi notices an enforcer with a familiar tattoo on his neck, pegging him as an impostor. She tries to follow him onto the podium, but is halted by other enforcers. Finally, the impostor arrives at the lectern, brandishes a flare gun and swings it at Mel's face, knocking her to the ground and cutting short her speech. Simultaneously, a veiled figure in the crowd reveals herself as
and takes a swing at Jayce with a massive weapon featuring multiple chainsaw blades. Rather than shoot Mel, the imposter fires the flare gun into the air, loudly informing the crowd that they are not safe. The crowd begins to flee in a panic. Renni goes after Jayce, cutting through a pair of enforcers in the process. An airship pulls into view and drops a squad of chemtanks into the ceremony, including one far larger than any previously seen. Caitlyn and Vi do battle with the chemtanks, which are otherwise tearing their way through enforcers. Jayce, armed only with furniture and his fists, squares off with Renni, managing to break one of the tubes on her face and temporarily stunning her. Maddie and Steb help the other councilors into a carriage to ensure their escape, but a chemtank crashes into the vehicle and sends it careening to the side. After saving each other's lives, Vi informs Caitlyn that she has an idea and leaves Caitlyn behind to protect the Councilors.
Jayce hides from Renni backstage but is discovered. His attack on Renni's face with a hammer does little good, and as he attempts to flee, Renni slices at his back, leaving an enormous gash. Vi runs through the capitol building, searching for something. The largest chemtank attacks the Councilors' fallen carriage, ripping Maddie from within and dangling her aloft. Steb rushes to help Maddie but is tossed aside by the chemtank. Loris arrives just in time with a huge metal shield, barely able to hold off the monstrosity, assisted by a few well-placed rifle shots from Caitlyn. Meanwhile, a wounded Jayce crawls away from his attacker, but is quickly set upon by Renni, who declares vengeance for her son. Before she delivers the killing blow, however, she is caught in a blast from the
, shot by Vi. Caitlyn, her fellow enforcers Maddie and Steb, and drunkard-turned-hero Loris are surrounded by chemtanks, prompting Vi to aim the Mercury Cannon in their direction. Vi is unable to figure out the cannon's controls, but Jayce reaches up to assist. As they fire, however, a rogue battleax connects with the largest chemtank's bullet-weakened faceplate. The ax comes from , Ambessa's guard. A volley of javelins disable the remaining chemtanks as Ambessa's soldiers flood the scene. Ambessa herself slices Renni's throat. In the aftermath of the battle, Vi meets with Caitlyn as they both grapple with the ramifications of the attack. Caitlyn is furious that they would attack a memorial, but Vi urges her to call off the invasion and take control of the conflict. Caitlyn lashes out, intimidated by the need to fill her mother's shoes, but Vi comforts her and they share a tender moment. Caitlyn reasons that she can't go after Jinx alone and laments that "it's all coming apart." Vi reassures her that they "won't let it."
Back at home, Caitlyn uses the Kiramman key to access her family's secret archives.
Salo, Shoola, and Mel hold a Council meeting within the dungeons beneath the capitol building. Salo doubles down on his belief that their enemy is greater than Jinx alone. Mel reasons that, in order to launch the attack against the memorial, Renni must've had help from someone in Piltover. Once again, Salo urges his peers to weaponize hextech against Zaun. shimmer, and neutralize any agents still loyal to Silco. She reveals that everyone in her strike team has equipped a hextech weapon, newly crafted by Jayce. Vi, notably, is wearing an enforcer badge and uniform with her Atlas gauntlets.

Sevika returns to Silco's office, angrily telling his empty chair that she can't believe she's still cleaning up his messes. Jinx reveals herself, lying in the rafters as usual. While Sevika prepares for a fight, Jinx shows no hostility. Instead, the pair reminisce over their time spent with Silco. Sevika wonders what to do next, to which Jinx suggests: "Watch it all burn."

Jayce too recognizes that the arcane pattern on the leaf matches the corruption on the plants tested with the hexcore. She aims her pistol at Vi and nearly pulls the trigger, but falters. Vi finds goggles on the ground. Jinx stealthily escapes, and when Caitlyn finds no sign of her, she shoots a random target in frustration. After fleeing the scene, Jinx suffers a mental breakdown and weeps. As she rounds a corner, she is attacked by one of Smeech's goons. All of his goons, followed by Smeech himself, apprehend Jinx, but Sevika appears with Jinx's pistol in hand. Sevika tosses Jinx the pistol as Jinx tosses Sevika the new arm, which Sevika hastily attaches to the hinge in her shoulder. In the ensuing battle, it becomes apparent that Jinx has built a number of new quirks into Sevika's arm, including a slot machine system that seems to unlock features at random. The arm ends in a claw trap rather than a proper hand, and the trap is attached to a wire, allowing it to be shot out and retracted. The arm also plays music and shoots fireworks. Together, Jinx and Sevika dispatch Smeech and his gangsters, with Isha watching all the while. Jinx tells Sevika that she's hatching a plan to "finish what's left of her family". Vi pins Jinx atop an altar, and while Jinx accepts her death, Vi hesitates. Isha runs out from her hiding place, grabbing Jinx's pistol, jumping between the two sisters, and pointing the gun at Vi's face. Caitlyn shoots the pistol out of Isha's hand, and Isha simply clings to Jinx. Caitlyn tells Vi to get out of the way so that she take the shot, But Vi stands in the way, saying that she can't shoot Jinx with a child in the crossfire. Caitlyn attempts to take the shot anyway, but Vi forces the gun barrel down towards the ground.Sevika struggles to her feet and pulls a latch, detonating an explosive. The enormous carving of Janna at the back of the temple crumbles, revealing a tunnel that releases a powerful gust of wind. Vi and Caitlyn are caught in the gust and are violently blown out of the chamber. As it continues through the vents, the wind catches a number of paint traps set by Jinx and flows into Piltover, releasing a series of colorful paint bombs throughout the city.
Caitlyn is furious that Vi stopped her, but Vi can hardly believe that Caitlyn would risk endangering a child. Caitlyn slams the butt of her rifle into Vi's gut and leaves her behind. Vi clutchs her stomach in pain and weeps.
Mel takes the vial of shimmer and begins to exit her office, but Elora is suddenly seized by a mysterious force. The magic of the Black Rose envelops the room and then disappears, taking Mel and Elora with it. The vial clatters to the floor.
Ambessa holds a meeting in the ruins of the Council chamber, surrounded by all of Piltover's notable houses. She gives a speech, falsely claiming that it was a Zaunite assassin who killed Amara. She urges the Piltovans to declare martial law, initiate a full-scale war with Zaun, and appoint a general to lead the charge. While Salo expects to receive this title, Ambessa names Caitlyn. Caitlyn is taken aback. Ambessa begins pounding her fist against her chest in a rhythmic motion, prompting her soldiers to do the same, followed by the enforcers. Later, Rictus walks through a Zaun checkpoint. As one of the Zaunites in line gives him a suspicious glance, he attacks them, removing their hat to reveal blue hair. He scolds the Zaunites for refusing to give up Jinx. Suddenly, the nearby speakers begin playing loud music, and the scene is engulfed by fireworks and paint bombs. The Zaunites use the opportunity to break through the checkpoint. Isha stands on a rooftop, having orchestrated the event as a mimicry of Jinx's style.
After examining the devices used at the crime scene, Caitlyn is certain that they were designed by Jinx. However, Maddie suggests that it may be a copycat, as the people of Zaun have become "desperate for something to believe in." Ambessa enters the room and asks to speak with Caitlyn in private. After a nod from Caitlyn, Maddie leaves. Ambessa states her belief that the supposed reappearance from Jinx will ignite Zaunite resistance, but will make Jinx easier to track. Caitlyn, however, rebukes Ambessa for Rictus's instigation of violence. Ambessa doubles down, urging Caitlyn to make more arrests in order to find someone who knows where Jinx is. Caitlyn questions the ethics of this approach. Ambessa tells Caitlyn that she will never be able to rest until Jinx is found, but leaves the decision to her.

She dons her mask and draws her blade, finally seeing Warwick within the car. Warwick lunges at her.
After most of the cells have been emptied, Sevika and Jinx search for Isha. They finally find her unable to move the heavy door of her cell. Jinx slides the door open, and the child hugs Jinx in a tearful embrace. As they reunite, Singed sees the lights flicker. He closes his own cell door, leaving a bloody handprint. A squad of enforcers emerge from the elevators, armed with riot shields and batons. However, a deafening banging noise turns their attention back towards the lift. Everyone braces for impact until finally, Warwick shatters through the elevator doors, his eyes and machinery glowing red. He begins to tear through the enforcers in a horrible display of savage bloodlust. Jinx tells Sevika to take Isha and leave while she stays behind and deals with the creature. Isha protests, but Sevika takes her anyway.
Sevika and Isha arrive back at the prison entrance to see the gruesome trail of bloodshed left in Warwick's wake. Sevika doesn't stop, and makes her escape with the child. Throughout her time as a fighter, Vi still thinks of Caitlyn, and unbeknownst to her, watches her from the sidelines. One night, Jinx sneaks into her apartment, causing Vi to attack her. Jinx pleads for her to listen and reveals that is still alive. Though Vi is skeptical, she agrees to let Jinx show her what she found.

. She finds a single splatter of blood that leads to the only prisoner still left in their cell, . She deduces that he was behind the attack and takes him away for interrogation. Despite and Caitlyn's best efforts, Singed refuses to answer their questions. After being abducted by the Black Rose and witnessing death within the magic force that kidnapped them both, awakens in a mysterious oubliette prison, where the only other occupant is a disheveled man. The walls are decorated in strange chalk markings in a variety of colors. Her cellmate reveals that their prison is an "Oculorum," a specialized chamber built by the ancients to seal away false prophets. The man makes a remark about an old family joke, causing Mel to ask him to step into the light. She recognizes him as her supposedly deceased brother, , and the siblings embrace.
Jinx and
take Vi to an abandoned mineshaft where they lost track of Vander. As they search for him, the sisters bicker, eventually escalating into a fist fight. Isha intervenes to help Jinx, but Vi knocks her aside, giving her a bloody nose. Jinx checks on Isha and they resume their search. Vi questions why Jinx came to her in the first place, and Jinx admits that the last time Vander needed them, they went alone, and nothing was ever the same again. She hopes that this time they can have a second chance, since he is her father as well.Singed anticipates Ambessa's visit to his cell, knowing she seeks his weapon. She demands he work for her, and in exchange, she offers to treat him as an esteemed advisor and provide for all his needs. However, she requires absolute loyalty and warns that if he betrays her, she will deliver a fate worse than Caitlyn's dungeons. Singed reveals more about the beast, explaining that he was once a well-respected man until a great tragedy struck. His ferocious will to live and high pain tolerance enabled the doctor to make significant strides in his research, although he couldn't save the man's mind, believing him to be nothing more than a beast driven by the

Mel draws a pattern in the dust and presses a brick in the wall, causing another brick to pop out. She begins to see the workings of a puzzle. She asks her brother how he ended up here, and he reveals that while he was in Basilich, he heard a rumor about their mother. Allegedly, she passed through the town many years ago and fell in love with someone, eventually having a child. Now, the child's inheritance is of interest to their captors.
Singed begins work on a device for Ambessa to track down Warwick when Caitlyn arrives. She reveals that her family's archives have uncovered many of the city's mysteries, but one in particular caught her attention: the dismissal of a revered academy alchemist. He was incredibly brilliant, but there were no records of his crime, which led her to another mystery—who created shimmer? She draws her weapon on Singed, knowing his true identity: Dr. Reveck. She questions why he did all this, and he simply replies, "For love." He opens a secret door in his lab and leads Caitlyn and Ambessa into a decorated room, where a
perfectly preserved corpse lies in a pod full of fluid. He reveals that everything he's done was with the intention of resurrecting his daughter and banishing death itself. Though initially though impossible, he now believes the beast holds the final key.Mel sees the patterns on the walls and begins to press various bricks to solve the puzzle. She senses something isn't right and slams her brother's head against the wall, knowing he is a fake. The illusion begins to break and Mel is once again restrained by black magical chains. A

As the chains begin to constrict Mel, her eyes light and destroys them in a burst of golden light. As Warwick wanders through the mines, he follows the scent of Isha's blood trail. Meanwhile, Vi, Jinx, and Isha find themselves in an abandoned room within the mine. As they search the area, they discover jackets that once belonged to Vander and
, along with a letter from Vander. In the letter, Vander apologizes to Silco for what he did after death, admitting that he was equally at fault. As they continue their search, Warwick catches up to them and attacks in a frenzy. Vi tries to hold him off, but Jinx pleads with her to believe that the beast is Vander. As it prepares to leap at her, Vi deactivates her and calls out to him.In a flashback, Felicia has a drink with Silco and Vander at the Last Drop. She reveals that she is pregnant with a girl but admits she has no idea how to raise a child and hasn't even chosen a name yet. Felicia realized she couldn't learn how to be a parent and protect her daughter from the dangers of Zaun at the same time, so she decides to involve the two "bozos" for help. She tells them they need to figure out how to fix Zaun—even if they have to "carve it out of the bedrock, covered in blisters"—for her sake and her daughter's. Vander and Silco agree and they toast to "blisters and bedrock." Vander then suggests the name

hextech must be destroyed. Viktor tells Jayce that he has accomplished their dream of spreading hextech to the masses and invites him to visit. However, Jayce responds that hextech is a curse and insists they have to end it. He senses that Jayce touched the arcane as well, but his mind suffered, and Viktor abruptly ends their conversation. Salo prepares to bring the canisters back to Viktor, but Jayce refuses to let him leave and swiftly kills Salo with a swing of his hammer.

Vi begins to believe in Viktor's commune, and wonders if the sisters should stay there.
Ambessa, Caitlyn,
, and Singed arrive outside the commune with a battalion of Noxian soldiers and a fortified cage meant for Warwick. Huck insists that no weapons are allowed inside. Ambessa nearly orders Rictus to attack, but Singed intervenes, inferring that the Herald is Viktor, his "former pupil." He asks to speak with Viktor himself before any direct action is taken. Ambessa agrees to these terms, but leaves behind a battle standard in the dirt with the promise that she will strike that night.Singed finds Viktor still at work on Warwick's sleeping form. Singed knows that Viktor is declining, as his powers are finite and diminished with every use. As Singed grabs Viktor's hand, Viktor sees a memory of the shimmer, with Viktor, the apex form of hextech, in order to save him, arguing that Viktor "must survive" to save everyone from themselves. Viktor then talks about fate and asserts that evolution is not "forever in flux" as Singed believes, but is destined toward a "final, " that will supersede nature. Viktor then refuses to sacrifice Warwick's humanity to help Singed's cause. Singed warns Viktor that if he perishes, his commune is soon to follow.
Singed is trying to bring back. Singed suggests combining Warwick, the apex form ofAs Singed leaves the commune, Vi grows suspicious and follows him into the canyon beyond. There, she is ambushed by Caitlyn, but Caitlyn relents after recognizing Vi. She says that she's hunting a "bloodthirsty, murderous beast." Vi says that she's "saving [her] dad."
Ambessa and her soldiers have set up camp not far from the commune. There, Singed explains to Ambessa that if Viktor succeeds in saving Vander, Warwick will be useless to him. He believes he can craft a serum that will prohibit Viktor's success. Caitlyn enters the tent, presenting a captured and restrained Vi.
Jayce overlooks Viktor's commune and grimaces before heading in.
Caitlyn chains Vi's handcuffs to a post. Singed is ready to detain Warwick, and Ambessa dismisses Caitlyn. Caitlyn sets down her gun and leaves. A soldier sets up a blood drip meant to attract Warwick. In his sleep, Warwick flinches.
Isha steals back Jinx's shock pistol and brings it to her. Jinx reloads the gemstone into the weapon and opines on how her life has changed since meeting Isha.
Ambessa prepares to execute Vi. She realizes, too late, that part of Caitlyn's gun is missing. Vi shakes off her restraints and tosses the
from the rifle towards Ambessa. In a flashback, it is revealed that Caitlyn briefed Vi on the camp's security and prepared her to take down Ambessa. The net surrounds Ambessa, binding her to a table and electrocuting her until she loses consciousness. Meanwhile, Singed attempts to inject Warwick with the serum, but Caitlyn puts him in a stranglehold and chokes him out.Jayce roams the commune, tortured by mysterious arcane visions. He briefly loses control and points the
towards a young child. After Jayce lowers his weapon, the child leads him to Viktor's home. As Jayce enters, he sees Viktor, eyes closed, floating in a meditative stance, with numerous magical tendrils connecting him to the walls.Caitlyn tries to wake Warwick, but she is attacked by Rictus. Jinx intervenes, and the pair fight. Before Rictus can deliver a killing blow, he is blocked by Warwick, who recognizes Jinx as his "daughter" and effortlessly tosses the man through a window. After Caitlyn regains her bearings, she sees Jinx and Warwick hugging. Vi and Isha arrive as well and join the embrace.
Jayce primes the Mercury Cannon and takes aim at Viktor. He fires, delivering a devastating blow to the chest that blasts through the ceiling, leaving Viktor dying on the floor. All of Viktor's followers go limp at once. They pass out on the ground, and then, they seize up and start screaming. The markings on their faces begin to glow and then dissipate.
Warwick, too, is affected. He glows a fiery red, and a fluid that resembles molten lava seeps from his body. He roars in agony. Rictus attempts to grab his ax, but Warwick
him. Ambessa arrives just in time to see Rictus on the ground, then angrily directs her soldiers to attack the commune. As the conflict ensues, Viktor claims to finally understand "the message hidden within the pattern." He says that Singed was "right," surmising that humanity is inherently flawed and emotional, and that these flaws cannot be escaped.
Vi, Caitlyn, and Jinx attempt to fend off the soldiers, but quickly find themselves in a losing battle as the Noxians attempt to subdue Warwick. Vi gets injured by a Noxian blade, and Jinx gets hurt by Warwick as she fails to calm him down. As a desperate last stand, Isha grabs Jinx's shock pistol from the ground and loads it with the two gemstones from Vi's gauntlets, totaling three gemstones within the chamber. When Jinx sees what Isha is doing, she rushes to stop her, but Vi holds Jinx back. Isha pulls the trigger, engulfing herself, Warwick, and the soldiers in a massive explosion.
Viktor concludes, "That which inspires us to our greatest good is also the cause of our greatest evil."Act 3[edit | edit source]
In an alternate universe, Ekko is sketching in his notebook when he suddenly gets an intense headache. After warping through the anomaly, the consciousness of the
from the main universe is shunted into alternate-Ekko's body. Ekko is disoriented when arrives with his supplies for their project. Thinking it's , Ekko attempts to defend himself, much to her confusion. He backs away to the door when arrives. Staring at him in disbelief, Ekko immediately hugs Benzo.Powder and Benzo take Ekko to the Last Drop for a drink while he lucidly observes this strange new reality. He is shocked to see Zaun with a clear skyline. Absentmindedly, he begins scribbling a drawing of the anomaly until Powder snaps him out of his daze, commenting on how distracted he seems. and , both alive as well, join them and talk about their project for the Young Innovator's Competition. After , a Jinxer in the main universe, comes by to clean their table, Mylo tries to ask her on a date, with help from Powder. Vander remarks that they'd be lost without her, but she shouldn't hold herself back for their sake. Ekko continues sketching the anomaly as his headache worsens, until arrives. Ekko becomes nauseous, stepping outside to vomit. Heimerdinger follows, revealing that he also comes from the main universe and has been waiting for him for several years (1,128 days). However, remains missing. When Ekko asks if he has found a way for them to return home, Heimerdinger explains that hextech was never invented in this universe, making it impossible to recreate the anomaly. While Ekko is anxious find a way back, Heimerdinger has grown accustomed to this universe, prompting Ekko to forge ahead on his own. They are interrupted by Powder, who invites Ekko to go see .
Meanwhile, Jayce wakes up in another alternate universe: a strange, desolate land devoid of life. He spots a hooded figure in the distance, the mage from his childhood, and tries to follow them, only to come across the petrified remains of someone who was frozen while running away from something. In the distance, he sees the remnants of Piltover, completely corrupted and destroyed by arcane forces, with the eye of the storm circling over the city's central clock tower where Jayce had built the hexgate.
Ekko accompanies Powder to her home: the same fallen airship engine that became Jinx's lair in the main universe. While Ekko is skeptical of this version of Powder, she appears to be a completely different person living a comparatively normal life. However, she possesses a shrine to a deceased Vi. After prodding Powder for information, he realizes that the key difference of this universe is that Vi died in the explosion at Jayce's apartment. Eventually, Ekko offends Powder when he asks if Vi's death was her fault, and she asks him to leave. Ekko goes to wander the streets of Zaun, finding it to be a shockingly happy, vibrant community compared to the Zaun he knows.
Ekko visits Jayce's old workshop, which is still destroyed by the accident. There, he collects tiny fragments of the exploded hex crystal buried in the wall, before returning to Heimerdinger, who is singing a song on his banjo to a nearby crowd of onlookers.
Jayce trudges through the wasteland towards Piltover. His
, lacking power, is much heavier, forcing him to drag it along or hoist it over his shoulder. He passes countless petrified corpses, all frozen in the horror they felt just before their deaths. As Jayce wanders through a crowd of these corpses, some of the figures begin to move, appearing to actually be strange humanoid robots. In fear, Jayce sprints away, but trips and falls into a deep crack in the earth. On the way down, the hammer falls on his calf and breaks his leg.Ekko explains his plan to Heimerdinger: he intends to recreate the anomaly using the hex crystal fragments. Heimerdinger believes it can't be done, and that even if it could, it wouldn't be worth the risk. Ekko implores him, saying that he needs a mentor, and Heimerdinger finally acquiesces.
Jayce wakes up in horrible pain at the bottom of a cave. Unable to climb out, he spends weeks there in solitude, feeding on the remains of critters and drinking from puddles. Arcane corruption steadily forms on the Mercury Hammer and the wound on his leg. Over the course of his confinement, he occasionally sees the hooded mage again. He scrawls a drawing of the anomaly, along with countless other notes, into the walls. He eventually dismantles the Mercury Hammer and uses its parts to build a walking stick and a splint for his leg. At last, his leg heals enough that he is able to climb the long distance out of the cave.
In order to make amends with Powder, Ekko takes her to the site of the main universe's Firelight alcove. Here, it is empty and overgrown. He reveals a mural he painted for the adult version of
from his own universe, claiming it was from a "dream" he had where everything was different. Powder loves the mural for how tough and fierce it makes Vi look. Ekko recognizes Powder's incredible talent for machinery and implores her to step outside her life at the Last Drop. Powder is still hesitant about changing who she is, but Ekko tells her that taking a leap forward means leaving a few things behind. She agrees to help and Ekko tells her about his plan to recreate the anomaly.Jayce continues his journey towards the center of Piltover, finally arriving at the Bridge of Progress.
Ekko, Heimerdinger, and Powder set to work. Though they fail many times, they eventually create a machine that spawns an anomaly; however, it's only about the size of the head of a pin. When Ekko activates the device, he finds that it sends him one second
. He gradually raises the threshold to two, three, and four seconds. At a five-second jump, however, Heimerdinger explodes. Ekko immediately reverses Heimerdinger's death and concludes that the limit is four seconds, visibly shaken. This time-looping invention would come to be known as the . Ekko and Powder leave to attend a party for the Young Innovator's Competition while Heimerdinger stays behind to continue working. Though Ekko is hesitant to leave Heimerdinger behind, the professor convinces him to have enjoy himself.Jayce climbs the clock tower at the heart of Piltover.
At the party at the Last Drop, many young inventors are showing off their creations, while Gert DJs the event. As Benzo chats with Ekko about the competition, Ekko takes the opportunity to thank him for all that he has done for him. Vander comments on the Z-Drive, noting that Powder hasn't been this excited for a long time, when
arrives and apparently on good terms with Vander and Benzo, much to Ekko's confusion. Powder eventually arrives and share a dance with Ekko. Later, they sit on the rooftop and gaze out at the city. Ekko admits he had given up on the undercity, but Powder restored his faith and the two kiss.Jayce finally arrives at the roof of the hexgate, above the clouds. There, he finds his own hunched, petrified corpse knelt at the top, gripping a deeply corrupted version of the Mercury Hammer.
After Ekko has left, Powder finds that he slipped a small gift into her pocket: a spinning charm engraved with an image of Ekko and Powder's faces set against a blue flower. However, reality seems to shift momentarily, alerting her. Ekko returns to Heimerdinger, seeing that the professor has already constructed a massive frame through which to send Ekko back home. The device hums to life.
As Jayce kneels before the corpse, the hooded mage appears. Jayce reasons that hextech destroyed Piltover and pleads with the mage to explain why they gifted him the crystal during his youth. He asks the mage to tell him there's a chance to save Piltover in the main universe.
Ekko and Heimerdinger stand within the frame of the machine. As the professor activates it, the pair are encompassed by an anomaly. However, the machinery proves unstable.
Jayce tells the mage to send him back to the main universe. The mage places a hand on the corpse's shoulder, causing it to hand over the corrupted Mercury Hammer.
As parts of the machine come undone, Heimerdinger tells Ekko that their time together has showed him what it means to live and he leaves the anomaly, despite Ekko's protest. As Heimerdinger pulls various levers, Powder arrives. Heimerdinger takes two large wires in hand and locks eyes with Ekko.
Jayce swears that he will not fail. The mage summons an anomaly that embeds Jayce's crystal bracelet into his skin. After a moment, Jayce vanishes.
Though Ekko protests, Heimerdinger connects the two wires and is seemingly disintegrated. Powder finds an unconscious Ekko on the floor outside the machine. As she stares into the anomaly, however, she sees Ekko in his main-universe appearance, carrying the Z-Drive. After a moment, this Ekko and the anomaly vanish, leaving the machine crumpled and destroyed. The alternate Ekko wakes up and asks Powder what happened.
Later, Powder goes to her shrine of Vi and places Ekko's charm inside a drawer next to the hex crystals she originally stole from Jayce.

Elsewhere in the house, Enforcers and Caitlyn merely opted to keep her in custody until Vi recovered. Vi is adamant that Jinx deserves a second chance.
Caitlyn visits Jinx's cell in the bunker far below ground. She slides a meal under the door, but the previous meal is still there, uneaten. Jinx is clearly devastated by Isha's death, her long hair uncharacteristically unbraided. She merely sits in the corner and picks at her fingernails until they bleed. Caitlyn gives Jinx a chance to account for her crimes. At first, Jinx offers nothing. At the end of their conversation, Jinx only says that she didn't know Caitlyn's

reacts to Mel's presence. Jayce realizes that Mel is a mage and it was her power that kept the two of them safe from Jinx's . He demands to know why she didn't save everyone, but Mel explains that she didn't yet understand her own abilities. Jayce is furious and distrustful, and after receiving more visions, fires a blast from the hammer into a nearby pillar. A sleek white robot with a gold trim dodges the blast and emerges from the shadows: the same shape as the ones from the alternate universe Jayce visited. It speaks with Viktor's voice, hoping to parley with Jayce. Viktor says that there is no need for them to fight and that Jayce can help fulfill the Glorious Evolution. Viktor wishes to resolve the issue peacefully, but threatens that Ambessa has other plans. Jayce refuses to join Viktor. In response, the robot attacks. After an arduous battle, Jayce and Mel defeat the metal creature, and after being forcibly expelled from his puppet, Viktor requests Singed to "begin the process."A hallucination of Piltover against Ambessa. Jinx halfheartedly agrees, but as Vi rushes to embrace her sister, Jinx delivers a punch to the gut and leaves Vi in the cell alone, locking the door behind her. Jinx believes that she cannot be redeemed, and implores Vi to be happy without her. She promises to "break the cycle."
Jayce apologizes to Mel for distrusting her. Mel laments that she spent her whole life trying to live up to her potential as a Medarda, describing herself as a "passenger" in her own story. Jayce reassures her, saying that nothing can control her, and that she "will never be a passenger."
Jayce gathers the notable houses of Piltover, as well as Zaun, in the Council chambers. He displays the broken shell of the robot that almost killed him, claiming that hundreds more are on the way. He begs them to come to Piltover's defense, saying that the coming war is unlike anything Piltover has faced. He explains that their strategy is to abandon the city's outskirts in order to stage their defense at the hexgates. If Viktor reaches the hexgates, the calamity would be devastating to all of Runeterra, not just their two cities. Sevika and Scar abandon the meeting, as do some others.
Piltover ends its occupation of Zaun, with enforcers dismantling the checkpoints.
Evacuations of the outer city have already begun. Many across Piltover and Zaun, some with no combat experience, volunteer to join the fight and are hastily trained by the enforcers. Among the enlistees are
and a young pianist.Caitlyn finds Vi locked in Jinx's cell. Vi bemoans that Caitlyn was right about Jinx, but Caitlyn reveals that she pulled her guards out of the bunker in order to allow Vi to free Jinx. Vi pulls Caitlyn into a kiss. Caitlyn hesitates, saying that she's been seeing someone else, but Vi doesn't care. The two have sex.
Mel visits Ambessa's camp at the destroyed commune. Ambessa is astonished to see Mel alive, but Mel simply says that she knows about the Black Rose and demands to know the truth about Kino. Ambessa explains that she made an impossible decision: as Kino's curiosity trapped him ever deeper in the Rose's web, Ambessa chose to let him die in order to protect Mel. Mel offers to accompany her mother out of Piltover so that the two can avenge Kino together. Ambessa rejects this. To combat the Black Rose, she intends on building "army that need never fear death." She shows Mel her host of robots, with the sphere containing Viktor at the center of it all.
Flashing back to the moment when Viktor told Singed to "begin the process," Singed channels far more of Warwick's blood into Viktor's sphere and injects Warwick with his new serum. In Viktor's arcane dreamscape, he says goodbye to Sky as she begins to vanish. He claims that he will miss her, but as her last words, she simply says, "No, you won't." The bodies of Viktor's followers levitate from the ground as they transform into sleek machines: white robots with a gold trim. Warwick too rises and transforms as his wounds begin to heal. The enforcers throw gas bombs that shroud the area in dark green smoke, giving the gas mask-wearing enforcers an advantage as the Noxians begin to cough and wheeze. The enforcers advance, with the one carrying the bomb crawling along the ground until they get stabbed by a soldier. Steb dispatches the soldier and takes the bomb. Though his mask is knocked off, he places the bomb on Viktor’s sphere and arms it, signaling to Caitlyn that the detonation is imminent. However, the explosion never comes: the bomb has been sabotaged with a nail in the gears. As Caitlyn looks on in confusion, she is knocked unconscious by a rifle to the head.Caitlyn wakes up on her knees. The Noxians have lined up the remaining enforcers, holding them at spearpoint, kneeling with their hands behind their heads. Maddie, a traitor, is pointing the hextech rifle at Caitlyn’s head. Ambessa arrives, and Maddie presents the rifle to her. Ambessa dismantles it and tosses the pieces to the ground. Maddie, with her own rifle, goes to execute Caitlyn, but she dodges the shot and elbows Maddie to the side. However, Ambessa stabs Caitlyn in the gut and beckons Maddie to resume the execution. As Maddie fires a second time, a magical sphere surrounds her. The bullet ricochets inside the sphere until it lands in Maddie’s head, killing her.
Mel, the source of the magic, emerges from a nearby building. She pleads with her mother to spare the enforcers’ lives, but Ambessa says Mel is “still a fox.” She calls on her soldiers, who all form a battle stance in unison.
Unexpectedly, loud music blares in the distance, growing closer. Firelights leap from the ship, riding their hoverboards. Emerging from the smoke of the paint bombs, , with yet another new arm, leads a ragtag group of
Zaunites to attack the Noxians. With the Noxians distracted, the enforcers get back on their feet and retrieve their rifles. Ekko knocks out the giant man dragging Viktor’s sphere.
Jinx brandishes a Rhino, a combination of and all-terrain heavy weapon gun, and opens fire on the Noxians at Vi’s perch. As the battle resumes, the pianist moves Loris’s body aside from the controls of the hexgate variant. He takes aim, but a shimmer-infused soldier blocks the shipping container. Vi punches the soldier into the loading zone, where he is sandwiched by the container as it slides into place. Finally, the pianist fires the container directly into Viktor’s sphere, but when the smoke clears, the split-open sphere is empty. Mel asks, “Where is Viktor?”

Mel again tries to plead with her mother, but their conversation is interrupted by Caitlyn, who surprises Ambessa with a blow to the face. Mel and Caitlyn square off against Ambessa.
The robots and Warwick arrive at Vi’s perch. The pianist is taken by the robots. Jinx fires at Warwick, momentarily pinning him. Warwick leaps onto Jinx’s balloon and attacks her. Vi leaps into the open air and is caught by Ekko, who carries her up to the balloon. With a massive punch against Warwick, Vi alters the balloon’s trajectory. Warwick grabs Vi and starts to put her in the trance. As the balloon spirals out of control, Ekko intentionally crashes it into the face of the clock tower that holds the hexgates.
As Jayce works to remove the power cells from the hexgates, Viktor explains his ideology. By combining everyone into a single hive mind and removing their free will, he can enable perfection and put an end to suffering. Viktor simply waves his claw, and the power cells all reinsert themselves back into place. The hexgates hum to life.
Even together, Mel and Caitlyn are losing against Ambessa. Caitlyn lashes out with the broken tip of a spear, but Ambessa turns it back on her. As Caitlyn resists, Ambessa slowly forces the blade toward Caitlyn’s eye. Mel forms a magical barrier, but Ambessa pushes through it using Rictus’ runes. As a last stand, Caitlyn removes the knife from her gut and slashes at the runes, taking the spear in the eye. The runes clatter to the ground. Caitlyn shouts “Now!” and Mel’s Black Rose necklace materializes around her neck. Mel grips the charm. The Rose’s magic swallows Ambessa, leaving her encased in chains within the realm of the illusory sorceress.
The sorceress salutes Ambessa’s resilience and pulls a magical force from Ambessa’s ears. However, Mel forces her way into the realm. She attacks the sorceress, consuming the realm in a blinding flash of magic. The realm disappears, leaving Mel and Ambessa back on the battlefield. Ambessa is awestruck, dying in Mel’s arms. She utters her final words: “You are the wolf.” As Mel grieves, the soldiers salute, affirming their newfound loyalty to Ambessa’s successor, Mel.
Vi and Jinx emerge from the wreckage of the crash. They stand back to back, anticipating an attack.
Viktor summons the anomaly from the hexgate failsafe. He shrinks it and places it within the gnarled crook of his staff. As Viktor rises up the tower shaft, Jayce finds that a
has suspended him in midair as well. He fires the downwards, launching himself upwards after Viktor.Warwick attacks Vi. Jinx fires her gun, but the bullets have no effect on Warwick. As Viktor and Jayce rise through the tower, the gravity loss affects Jinx, Vi, and Warwick as well. They float into the air.
Jayce swings his hammer at Viktor, but Viktor deflects it with his laser and catches Jayce in the throat. They continue their ascent, passing between Vi and Warwick, until they shoot through the roof of the tower. Dozens of robots are already there, standing in a spiral formation. Viktor leaves Jayce on the roof as he continues upward. The anomaly rises into the sky, beyond the clouds, and initiates a massive
. An arcane pulse ripples outward, leaving behind signs of corruption. Countless glowing tendrils descend from the sky, connecting like wires into the heads of everyone in the vicinity, including the soldiers, Mel, and Caitlyn. Warwick grips Jinx and Vi, lifting them into the air as the tendrils reach them as well. Everyone connected to the tendrils enters the trance.Ekko finally wakes up at the crash site. He sees the floating hands of a clock.
Jayce kneels with the
in the same position as the corpse he saw atop the tower in the alternate universe. Viktor appears before him and places a hand on his head, putting Jayce into the trance. Jayce wakes up in Viktor’s arcane dreamscape, where countless other bodies float in the void. Viktor claims that the clash between emotion and reason is what dooms humanity, but Jayce finds beauty in imperfection, including Viktor’s.Ekko flies his hoverboard past the robots, carrying a
as a weapon. He tries to take a swing at Viktor, but a robot knocks him from his board. He rewinds time, now anticipating the strike and dodging it. This occurs several more times until the robots manage to pin Ekko to the ground. They raise him into the air, attempting to place him in the trance. Ekko rewinds time, but it’s too late; four seconds have already elapsed since the robots grabbed him. Desperately, Ekko sets the Z-Drive far beyond the four-second limit in order to escape. The Z-Drive becomes unstable, and Ekko hurls it at Viktor. It explodes, splitting open Viktor’s face.In the dreamscape, Viktor asks Jayce why he still persists in spite of everything Viktor’s done. Jayce responds: “Because I promised you.” Jayce pulls Viktor into a hug, and in a flash of clarity, Viktor sees everything that Jayce saw in the alternate universe. The mage from Jayce’s childhood was an alternate future version of Viktor himself. This Viktor traveled across time and space to countless universes to save Jayce’s life and give him a runic crystal (with a different rune each time) during his childhood, setting in motion Jayce and Viktor’s meeting and the invention of hextech. Across all realities, only Jayce is able to show Viktor the truth: “There is no prize to perfection, only an end to pursuit.”
Viktor is horrified at this revelation. In the dreamscape, he reverts into his human form, suddenly full of doubt and regret. He tells Jayce to go, but Jayce insists that they’ll “finish this together.” Jayce takes the rune from his wrist and gives it to Viktor. The energy erupts in a series of vibrant magical flashes. In the end, Jayce and Viktor are sucked inside Jayce’s crystal—they disappear.
The robots collapse and the tendrils vanish, releasing everyone from the trance. Vi, Jinx, and Warwick fall from the air, slamming into the machinery below.
Jinx lands on one platform while Vi and Warwick land on another. Jinx sees that Vi’s platform is unstable and calls out to her, telling her to jump to another ledge before it falls. Instead, Vi approaches Warwick’s unconscious form. Jinx pleads with her, claiming that Vander can’t be saved. As Vi cradles Warwick’s face, he awakes and immediately attacks. Jinx dashes into Warwick, tackling him off the edge. With her gauntlets, Vi takes Jinx’s hand, holding her back from the long fall. Warwick holds onto Jinx. Jinx sacrifices herself, punching Vi’s
in a spot that causes the hextech gemstone to pop out. The gauntlet loses power, falling from Vi’s hand, and with it, Jinx and Warwick plummet towards the earth. As they fall, Jinx detonates a grenade in her hands, causing a massive explosion. The Mercury Hammer crumbles into pieces as Vi's anguished cries echo above the hexgate.
Later, in order to memorialize the battle, the people of Piltover and Zaun hold ceremonies at the Bridge of Progress and throughout the two cities. They write the names of the fallen on slips of paper and burn them, letting them float away into the air. Privately, Ekko burns his own slip of paper.
As
is the only remaining councilor, the Council is newly populated with members of Piltover’s notable houses, with one exception: Sevika.successfully crafts a new mechanical body for his daughter, .
A raven flies to the top of the hexgate tower and pokes at the crumbled ruins of the Mercury Hammer. It reveals that it has six red eyes, ostensibly an agent of
. It pecks at the hammer until it finds the hex crystal.and the remaining Noxian soldiers take Ambessa’s boats and leave Piltover’s shores.
Caitlyn examines the blueprints of the hexgates. Fondling a burnt piece of Jinx’s grenade, she seems to come to the conclusion that Jinx may have escaped through the tower’s ventilation system.
Caitlyn meets Vi in her lounge. Caitlyn asks Vi if she’s “still in this fight.” Vi responds, “I am the dirt under your nails, cupcake. Nothing’s gonna clean me out.”
An airship rides towards the horizon, perhaps containing Jinx.Trivia[edit | edit source]
