Ignite is a unit-targeted summoner spell that burns an enemy champion for a few seconds, dealing periodic true damage, applying healing reduction, and revealing the target over the duration.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Each tick of Ignite deals 14 – 95 (based on level) true damage.
  • Ignite deals its first tick of damage at [0 to 0.264] seconds after the cast, based on how soon the first character stat update tick after the cast occurs.
    • The last tick is thus dealt at [0 to 0.264] plus 5.28 seconds, well before the debuff's duration runs out.
  • An icon representing Cleanse Cleanse removes the damage over time and reveal components of Ignite, but the healing reduction debuff will persist.
  • Ignite deals default damage, and thus will not trigger spell effects.
  • Ignite cannot reveal stealthed targets as it does not apply true sight.
  • Subsequent casts of Ignite on the same target will override the previous debuff; the effect will refresh in duration but cannot be stacked.
  • Ignite grants two stacks of An icon representing Conqueror Conqueror, and one of An icon representing Electrocute Electrocute and An icon representing Phase Rush Phase Rush upon activation.
  • Ignite triggers An icon representing Summon Aery Summon Aery on the application of its first tick.
    • Subsequent ticks cannot trigger the rune.
  • Ignite deals true damage and therefore cannot be mitigated by any form of damage reduction, although shields and invulnerability effects will absorb the damage.
  • The cooldown of this spell can be reduced by summoner spell cooldown reduction.

Effectiveness comparison[edit | edit source]

The following table compares the effectiveness of An icon representing Barrier Barrier vs An icon representing Heal Heal on a target affected by An icon representing Ignite Ignite.

  • An icon representing Barrier Barrier will always negate 40% of An icon representing Ignite Ignite's damage if it is activated while under the effect of An icon representing Ignite Ignite for at least 2 seconds.
  • An icon representing Heal Heal will always negate more damage than An icon representing Barrier Barrier.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

  • Ignite provides players an offensive utility and damage spell that scales with level. Throughout Season Two (2012) and Season Three (2013), the spell was nearly ubiquitous in all lanes, as the extra kill pressure was highly valued. The changes to An icon representing Heal Heal and An icon representing Exhaust Exhaust in Season 2014 provided powerful tools to defend against all-ins, causing Ignite to fall out of favor among all but the most aggressive roles and weakening aggressive champions and strategies overall. In Season 2019, Ignite regained its original lower cooldown and is now heavily favored among supports and 1v1 kill lanes.
  • A well-placed healing reduction debuff from Ignite can severely limit the effectiveness of enemy healing items, as well as healing abilities from champions like An icon representing Soraka Soraka, An icon representing Aatrox Aatrox, An icon representing Vladimir Vladimir, An icon representing Volibear Volibear, and An icon representing Warwick Warwick. It is considered a direct counter to An icon representing Dr. Mundo Dr. Mundo, An icon representing Soraka Soraka, An icon representing Aatrox Aatrox and An icon representing Swain Swain because they are reliant on their healing-based abilities. The healing reduction debuff also applies to  life steal,  spell vamp, and drain effects from items and abilities such as An icon for the item Death's Dance Death's Dance and An icon representing Aatrox Aatrox's An icon for Aatrox's ability World Ender World Ender.
