Unwavering in her devotion to Ionia, Yunara has spent centuries cloistered away in the spirit realm honing her skills with the Aion Er'na, a legendary Kinkou relic. Despite all she has sacrificed, Yunara's vow to rid the land of disharmony and strife remains unbroken, as does her faith. But the world that now awaits her—and the shadow of an ancient threat risen once more—will test every ounce of her resolve.

Background

Early Life

Yunara was born centuries ago in Ionia. At some point, she joined the Kinkou Order and earned the title of the Fist of Shadow by the time she was an adult. After the Darkin War began, a number of the god-warriors invaded the First Lands while claiming to be great spirits; an event which became known as the War of the False Kanmei. As the First Lands fell into devastation, Yunara searched for help in her hometown's temple, where she prayed to the Great Spirit to help her fight the Darkin and save her people. Although he initially refused, the Great Spirit agreed to help after learning the Darkin were posing as Kanmei. His aid came on one condition: All his enemies should be Yunara's too.

Yunara and the Great Spirit fought together against the False Kanmei and saved the First Lands. When the conflict was over, however, the Spirit revealed to Yunara that he was a Darkin too, and that he was going to exile himself to protect the mortal realm from his own nature. But Yunara refused to leave him and joined him in exile to the Spirit Realm, where she kept him contained within the Darkin Glaive. In the following centuries, Yunara's sacrifice would be remembered in the tale of the Devoted Shrine Maiden, and she would remain in the Spirit Realm until the Wyldbloom unexpectedly returned her and her shrine to the mortal realm.

Appearance

Yunara is a slender, fair-skinned woman with purple eyes and lavender hair. She wears elegant, traditional Ionian robes with a distinct palette of white, blue, and brown. Yunara wears ceremonial paint on her forehead.

Personality

In ancient legend, Yunara was depicted as a kind and careful maiden who worried about her people and land, almost to the point of sacrificing herself for it.

Having been exiled to the Spirit Realm for more than 1000 years, Yunara has returned to an Ionia she does not recognize with modern customs she does not understand, and has also shown a lack of trust in the modern Kinkou Order's indecision and unwillingness to fight enemy invaders. As a fighter, her demeanor has become somewhat harsh towards both herself and others, but she remains faithful to her promises—the trait she became renowned for after the Darkin War. Yunara is also frequently hungry and believes a lack of food makes people "ornery".

Relations

Great Spirit

During the Darkin War, Yunara requested aid from the Great Spirit against the "False Kanmei" who were ravaging the First Lands. In exchange for his help, Yunara took the spirit as her patron and swore loyalty to him, initially unaware that he was a Darkin like their enemies. When Ionia was once again at peace, the Great Spirit revealed his true nature to Yunara and was remorseful for deceiving her, but Yunara remained devoted and joined him in exile to the Spirit Realm, where she guarded the glaive he was sealed within.

Kennen

As they were both high-ranking members of the Kinkou Order, Yunara was old friends with Kennen and knew him before she went into her self-imposed exile. Yunara also promised she would stop Kennen if he ever lost his way.

Rhaast and Varus

Rhaast and Varus were among the Darkin that Yunara fought and eventually defeated with the help of the Great Spirit.

Xin Zhao

Yunara met Xin Zhao during his pilgrimage to the Temple of Koeshin, where she and her shrine were unexpectedly returned to the mortal realm.

• Yunara was first teased as the next champion in the Here, Tomorrow cinematic.
• During the Darkin War, Yunara served as the Fist of Shadow of the Kinkou Order, a title that in recent years Akali held for a very short time. This means that she has probably met Kennen, as he is the first and only Heart of the Tempest ever.
  • Yunara's master was Lao, a shopkeeper on Koeshin's Crossing who once held the same title.

Cultivation of Spirit

Passive: Yunara's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and generate stacks of Unleash, stacking up to a cap upon which she can cast Cultivation of Spirit.

Active: Yunara unleashes for a few seconds: her basic attacks gain  bonus attack speed, deal additional bonus magic damage, and spread to deal physical damage to enemies near the target.

The spread attack will apply  life steal and on-hit effects, and can critically strike.
