Main article: Seraphine (Development)
  • Seraphine is voiced by Michele Panu in League of Legends and Legends of Runeterra. Panu also voices An icon representing Seraphine/Cosmetics K/DA ALL OUT Seraphine Indie, An icon representing Seraphine/Cosmetics K/DA ALL OUT Seraphine Rising Star, An icon representing Seraphine/Cosmetics K/DA ALL OUT Seraphine Superstar, An icon representing WR:Seraphine/Cosmetics Crystal Rose Seraphine, and An icon representing Seraphine/Cosmetics Battle Dove Seraphine, as well as An icon representing WR:Seraphine/Cosmetics Star Guardian Seraphine in New Dreams.[1]
    • In Latin America, she is voiced by Leslie Gil, who covered "MORE" in Spanish. In addition to providing vocals for An icon representing Seraphine/Cosmetics Seraphine, she also sang An icon representing Ahri/Cosmetics Ahri's verses.
  • Her codenames were EllipsisMage and Idol.[2][3]
  • Seraphine's placeholder model in development was a recolored An icon representing Syndra Syndra.[4]
  • Seraphine was inspired by Chinese culture, particularly Chinese-Americans. She has a fairer skintone that took inspiration from younger, teenage Chinese-American vloggers.[5]
  • Seraphine's abilities were datamined from Wild Rift Closed Beta 1, becoming the first instance of public information about the champion.[6]
  • She has some thematic overlap with An icon representing Sona Sona; whereas Sona is supposed to represent the musical aura thematic, Seraphine is supposed to represent the rhythmic music theme.[7]
  • The gameplay goals for Seraphine were to create a mage that was both simple and allies would enjoy playing with.[8]
  • Her name is likely based on Hebrew Seraphim, a kind of angel in Judaism. This is the same origin as An icon for the item Seraph's Embrace Seraph's Embrace.
  • She was originally planned to be released in middle of 2020, but was held back to be released with  K/DA due being a thematically strong match.[9]
  • Seraphine's outfit was designed to stand out compared to the usual outfits from Piltover and Zaun, due to the costumes of real life pop stars at concerts being different from average street wear.[10]
  • An icon representing Seraphine/Cosmetics K/DA ALL OUT Seraphine Indie and An icon representing Seraphine/Cosmetics Rising Star were promoted as the official reveal of Seraphine before her classic appearance was revealed. Superstar was saved for her performance at 2020 World Championship.
    • Seraphine's Twitter account was ran by Riot writer Bethany Higa with the goal of creating an interactive story about a girl who pursues her dreams.[11]
  • A scrapped ability tested in development was mind control themed spell. She would channel on a single target and mesmerize them, allowing her to control their actions for a few seconds.[12]

Universe

An icon representing Seraphine Seraphine, the Starry-Eyed Songstress (Old Lore)
  • Seraphine's magical hearing allows her to understand the brackerns' singing language, becoming the first person with the ability to hear them in hextech crystals. However, she's only capable to communicate with one in particular, her own crystal, as result of their deep connection over the years.[13] Her color story implies she's only able to hear it when Piltover and Zaun's songs are in harmony.
    • Despite being the first person to achieve this goal in universe, the first champion known to hear the brackern's soul song was An icon representing Universe:Jayce Jayce.
    • Her biography got tweaked shortly after revealed due to player response to clear up doubts about her characterization. Some of her quotes, especially those about brackern and hextech lore, got some players confused about Seraphine's nature and were removed from her voiceover to avoid misleading connotations.[14] According to Riot Jag, Seraphine was never meant to know the true identity of the entity inside the crystals and these quotes were designed only for player immersion ingame.[15]
    • After An icon representing Universe:Skarner Skarner received his rework, there is no longer any connection between the brackern and hextech, which has led to some canonical inconsistencies regarding Seraphine.
  • The song she performs in her color story is implied to be her own champion theme.[16]
    • Champion themes are what Sera would hear when near them, but whatever version she performs would be a fan cover, different from official themes. [17]
  • An icon for Seraphine's ability Stage Presence Stage Presence's double cast represents a technological overcharge of her stage.[18]
  • Seraphine's spells are her sound and voice amplified, her basic attacks come from the sound waves of her fingers snapping.[19]
  • Seraphine is 17 in 996 AN, according to Riot Reav3.[20]
  • Seraphine has chromesthesia, a perceptual phenomenon in which auditory stimulation leads to visual experience, being able to see colors and shapes in sounds.
  • Seraphine's favorite flavor of ice cream is cotton candy.[21]
  • Despite having no feature in Arcane, Seraphine's Hextech platform was featured in the Showdown game mode as "Echoes of the Heart".

    • Her spotlight received the most dislikes in Korea, totaling around 93%.
  • Seraphine is the first champion to be simultaneously released in League of Legends and Wild Rift.

  • There are some dialogues that were removed due to the negative feedback by the community about the use of the hex crystals that An icon representing Universe:Seraphine Seraphine can hear through her chromesthesia, since in An icon representing Universe:Skarner Skarner's An icon representing Skarner/Cosmetics pre-rework contains such crystals before being reworked in-game and the story of the hextech were remade that coincide for the development of the Arcane series.[23]

That's me.", "Kai'Sa, you're cool, but I'm cold.", "Akali! Oh no! Did I... 'go to work' too hard?", "On a wave now!", "Know I got it!", "Way out!", "Like I'm floating!", "Never weighed down!", "Giving it all!", "If you're ready, let's go!", and "More!" reference "MORE" by K/DA.
      • The song is also her debut with K/DA; some lines directly quote her own lyrics.

  • Some other quotes are inspired from pop music culture in general:
  • "Rumors hurt more than sticks or stones. The words you say hit like bricks on bones. But like Maya and the tides, still I rise." is a references the poem "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou.
  • In a dialog that was removed in the PBE, "Fighting!" which was a phrase of encouragement originating from and popularized by South Korean sports culture (it is initially derived from Korean-style English), was removed because of the complaint in the South Korean community for her character development for commercial purposes for Chinese, because in his version in Riot Records universe he is of Chinese descent and can sing in Chinese in her two songs ("Made Me This Way" and "MORE", respectively), they did not take it because it broke the story as a character and that she sang that language in a K-Pop song.[24]

  • "Birds just wanna have fun!" is a puns on the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" song by Cyndi Lauper.
  • "What, like it's hard?" is based on a quote from the Legally Blonde movie.
  • "Birds of a feather rock together!" is a reference to a English proverb, ("Birds of a feather flock together.").
  • "Another one bites the dust!" is a reference to the song of the same name by the Queen British rock band.
  • "Upgrades for the suit? Don't mind if I do!" resembles Twisted Fate's line: "Don't mind if I do."
  • In the German localization, one of the available line, "Niemand bringt diese Taube zum Weinen." ('No one makes this dove cry.'), is a reference to the "When Doves Cry" song by the singer Prince.
