Development

Lulu is voiced by Faye Mata, who also voices 3Lulu in Legends of Runeterra.^[1] Mata also reprised the role in Don't Mess With Yordles.
Faye Mata had played League of Legends before she was cast as Lulu. In an interview talking about Lulu's voice, she stated "I knew exactly what that laugh would be used for. [...] I am a League player at heart."^[2] Mata further explained that Lulu's voice was a mix of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter, and Rarity from My Little Pony.
Lulu's Japanese voice actor is Aoi Yūki.^[3]
Lulu's production name was Waena the Suppordle (a Support + Yordle portmanteau).^[4]

Lulu may have had a quirky encounter with Shaco at some point
After Lulu was released in League of Legends, the community immediately began creating a lot of content featuring her and Veigar, which led to Riot Games officially making them friends in the game's old lore.

Lulu is the first champion to:
- Be announced directly through an "Art Spotlight".
- Be available for play on the PBE before her official release.
- Have her own login screen and dedicated theme.
Lulu was the last champion to release with 2 skins alongside her Classic one.
Whimsy, Help, Pix!, Lamb's Respite, Tempered Fate and Time Warp are the only abilities in the game that can affect themselves, allies, and enemies.
Lulu's abilities grant buffs and debuffs depending if her target is an ally or an enemy.
- Using Help, Pix! on an enemy will grant them a debuff reading 'Hey! Listen!' referencing Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
- In chat, the enemy player's character name is replaced by "Harmless Critter" while they are polymorphed by Whimsy.
  - Before V11.1, this changed name would range along a number of possible ones, depending on Lulu's skin: Squill, Cupcake, Kitty, Dragon, Snowman, Blob, Jelly and Blob.^[5]

"Yup, that tasted purple" is originally cited as a case of Synesthesia. It also might be referencing Philip J. Fry from Futurama ("Did everything just taste purple for a second?").
- Later in Legends of Runeterra, it is revealed that she is talking about the purple faefolk (such as the 3 Tasty Faefolk among others).
In the Polish localization, Lulu says "Po oczach ich, Pix, po oczach!" ("Go for the eyes, Pix, for the eyes!") which references Minsc and Boo from Baldur's Gate.

She was released in celebration of Snowdown Showdown 2013 along with:
- Snow Day Singed
- Snowstorm Sivir
She was conceived after 'Freezing Blizzard Lulu' by 'CelestialBird' / 'Cirath'
Pix turns into a winged Poro.
- This winged Poro is featured in the Pixel Poro minigame.
A Poro in the background sports a mustache (later revealed to be a teaser for Braum).
Whimsy turns her enemies into snowmen.

She might be referencing Squid Girl and Splatoon.
Whimsy turns her enemies into baby seals.
Pix turns into a Pufferfish.
Glitterlance shoots gusts of water.
Wild Growth sprouts sand castles from the ground.
She has different chroma hat designs.
- Her Citrine chroma is a reference to Finding Nemo.
- Her Rose Quartz chroma shares a similar hat motif and color scheme with Princess Peach, most specifically her emblem in the Mario & Sonic (series).
- Her Peridot chroma turns into a cactus.
- Her Sandstone chroma color scheme could be a reference to Grumpy Cat.

She references the magical girl genre of anime.
Pix turns into a flying magical familiar. Possibly a reference to Kyubey from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Whimsy turns her enemies into green winged slimes. If Whimsy is used on a Star Guardian ally, they'll go into their new flying homeguard animation.
It is the first Lulu skin without her signature oversized hat.

She is wearing pajamas designed after her medium, Pix.
The party is playing Mechs vs. Minions.
The bookshelf features:
- A group portrait of Star Guardian Ahri's team, notably her and Star Guardian Ezreal.
- The Sword and the Sabre, a book also seen within the Odyssey universe.
