Development

Main article: Briar (Development)
  • Briar is voiced by Julie Nathanson.[1]
  • Briar's codename in development was Buckle.
  • Briar's placeholder model in development was a recolored An icon representing Gwen Gwen.
  • The castle in Briar's teaser illustration was originally where she was imprisoned, but scrapped later in development.
  • Some of Briar's scrapped spells include:
    • An iteration of An icon for Briar's ability Blood Frenzy Blood Frenzy that allowed her to attack her allies.[3]
    • An iteration of her ultimate that revived her, dealt physical damage in an area, and healed her damage dealt if the ability was off cooldown.[4]
    • An iteration of An icon for Briar's ability Certain Death Certain Death with unlimited range.
      • Her ultimate range was capped due to enemies being able to catch her ultimate in the fountain, forcing her to be executed.[5]

Universe

Main article: Briar (Character)
  • Briar's pillory is similar to An icon representing Universe:Riven Riven's blade, as both are runic objects created by the Black Rose with the special ability to reassemble at will.[6]
  • Briar's height is 5 foot, 3 inches or 161 centimeters.[7]
  • Riot August, on his stream, stated that Briar is "around late college age." However, because she was created toward the end of Boram Darkwill's reign as Grand General, she was most likely created at least a decade ago.[8]
  • Though Briar's relation with An icon representing Universe:Talon Talon isn't clear, he's described as one of the few people she considers a 'friend'.
  • It is unknown if she can survive forever without eating, sleeping or drinking, as they're the most basic of needs for any being.
  • Briar's strength is enough to be in constant lift of the pillory at her back, even to make acrobatics and dash at high speeds.
  • She used to move around on four limbs and claimed that method to be much easier.
  • Despite being a weapon and be jailed for some time, she has quite the knowledge for theoretical questions.
    • But still doesn't comprehend some human expressions.

  • Briar breaks the fourth wall with her ban quote, where she addresses the player directly and also does so in a playfully mocking/taunting way.
  • "Is 'not choosing' a choice? No... Yes! Yes." refers to a widely-spread and discussed question of philosophical origin.
    • This quote, along with "Everyone's got a pillory of their own. Mine's just on the outside." and "Now that I think about it... Fighters are honest, but it's the liars who start wars.", are also the only quotes in her classic voice-over that outright exceed her known character development status from all other sources—including the rest of this voice-over itself (the fact she is trying to find her control on the inside yet also her place in the world on the outside, hesitant yet eager).
